Foreign used vehicles already en route to T&T will be exempt from the revised policy which sets a new age limit of four years on the importation of gasoline powered cars.
The revised policy was announced by Trade Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon on Friday, one day after it was approved by Cabinet.
In response to queries from foreign used car dealers, the Trade Minister said in a statement yesterday that Cabinet had agreed that the policy change will not apply to foreign used vehicles which had already been purchased and were en route to T&T on Friday.
The statement continued: “In this regard, the Trade Licence Unit of the Ministry of Trade and Industry has been directed to examine the relevant documentation to ensure compliance.”
