I am aware that the electricity commission closed the Port-of-Spain plant but have they closed down completely, or is it the normal Third World “catch tail” to access a service from them for which taxpayers have paid.
A street light outside my gate has been inoperative since March 8. I have called till my fingers turned blue and I could only talk to a machine. I have left countless messages, sent countless emails and even spoke to the machine from their St James office myself, when I thought I would make a report in person—but to no avail.
In the past they would arrive within seven working days as promised. Recently I have travelled to almost every end of the island—to Chaguaramas, Blanchissuese, Toco, Guayaguayare and Icacos, and I am appalled to see the state of the poles in those areas. They are so bent that the live lines are dragging on the ground, one opposite a school.
Tons of vines growing on the lines dragging them down and the usual shoe store full of sneakers over the lines and I wonder what is wrong with their maintenance crews.
At least give us 50 per cent service; we deserve it notwithstanding we live in a Third World country.
