There has been an apparent rise in robberies recently on the University of the West Indies (UWI), St Augustine campus. Guild vice president, Michael Rajnauth, has warned students to be cautious around and off campus for the upcoming examination period.

"While there exists the estate police service and other private security companies contracted by the university, such as Phoenix Security Services, there is still a prevalence of crime related activities against students," he stated on his Facebook page yesterday.

He said the student security committee, campus security and campus administration are currently working together to ensure student safety.

Rajnauth has asked students to take note of following safety precautions:

1. Be sure to utilise the shuttle services. Shuttles are available at JFK from 6 am to 7 pm and at SAC from 7pm to 6am

2. If shuttles are unavailable, proceed to the charge room and request an estate police escort to your destination. Any request regarding shuttles or estate police escort contact the charge room at this number 662 2002 ext 82120, 83510

3. If it is absolutely necessary to walk, do so in groups.

4. Be sure to always walk with UWI ID when on campus.
