T&T Pro League duo, Central FC and W Connection left for Haiti where they will contest the Caribbean Football Union Club Championship semifinal and playoffs towards qualification to the 2016/2017 Scotia Concacaf Champions League.
It’s all part of a busy period for both clubs, as Central FC, which left yesterday is locked in a battle with San Juan Jabloteh, W Connection and Defence Force for its second straight Digicel T&T Pro League title.
Seven points separate the four clubs with no more than three matches left each for the chasing trio.
W Connection left on Tuesday.
In last year’s CFU Club final, Central FC, defeated W Connection 2-1 and, for a second consecutive time, meet Haiti’s Don Bosco FC in the semi-final round at the Stade Sylvio Cator, Haiti’s National Stadium, Port-au-Prince, from 7 pm tomorrow.
Multiple-time CFU champions W Connection tackles Jamaica’s Arnett Gardens in the first semifinal from 4.30 pm as all four semi-finalist teams enter as winners of their respective groups.
The 2016 final and third place play-off will be contested on Sunday.
The two semi-final round winners and third place winners will secure the three Caribbean berths at the 2016/17 Concacaf Champions League.
Last season Central, coached then by former England and Tottenham defender Terry Fenwick, needed penalties to defeat Don Bosco 3-1 following a goalless semi-final draw before edging 9-man W Connection in the final to lift the Caribbean.
The W Connection club is no stranger to the prestigious tournament having won the title four times and ended as runners-up on five occasions.
