A plea to improve Greenvale

It was with great pomp and fanfare, the new PNM government was chosen by the democratic process, last September. A memory still fresh in the minds of Trinidadian and Tobagonians alike.

However, though recently inaugurated, the government has many duties to fulfil and tasks to accomplish. Understandably so, as there are various sectors and institutions in society requiring upgrades and improvements.

It is with this in mind I bring to the forefront an issue facing the Greenvale community for time immemorial. There has been nonstop community outcry for infrastructure to be put in place for street lights as well as internet access.

To many in the country and world, these have become basic amenities, particularly due to the fact that we are in the ‘Age of Technology’. Many in within the community of Greenvale is in the dark and feel bewildered as to when work will be completed.

Plaudits to the Minister of Communications and MP for the area Maxie Cuffie for the commencement of works in the area thus far and the residents acknowledge them (such as the presence of PTSC buses) but mention must be made of the lack of information to the residents particularly by the Communications Minister.

It should never become a necessity for me to lobby for communication and action through the avenue of social media.

We are once again pleading for information and progress since promises were made for street lights to be finished by April 15th 2016 and May is now upon us. Students arriving home on late evenings after lessons are at a constant risk of falling victim to criminal activity in the dark.

Persons are in danger when leaving for work in the wee hours of the morning. Assignments, homework and research is proving extremely difficult without internet access, especially now during a nationwide exam period.

Minister Cuffie we are pleading with you to properly inform the residents as to the progress and deadlines associated with these projects.

With so much positive work done thus far, it would be unfortunate for these continuous unanswered questions to put a stain on that.
