Central Sports top Premier II

Central Sports under the lone hand of president Richard Ramkissoon continues to impress in domestic cricket and is currently leading the standings in the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board Premiership Division II League.

On the weekend they took score of Cane Farm with relative ease. Thus far Central Sports leads the standings with 114 points after netting 23 points with an innings and 38 run win over Cane Farm. Caldrac Club trails Central Sports by 20 points and have an chance of winning the Premiership Division II League title. Caldrac maintained the pressure on Central Sports after beating Moosai’s Sports by five wickets to pick up 23 points.

Queen’s Park II is third on 72 points. They lost ground in the league after conceding first innings honours to a youthful Preysal squad captained by Saiba Batoosingh. Preysal and Calcutta are at the bottom of the standings on 58 points. Calcutta, however, picked up 15 points against Esmeralda after taking first innings honours.

Ramkissoon who is chief cook and bottle washer at Central Sports has held the team up singlehandedly, even using his own funds to keep the team afloat. His company Central Interiors is one of the major sponsors of the club and he has gotten assistance with uniforms this season by Bankers Insurance.

Orangefield clips EYM for lead

Orangefield United defeated EYM by two wickets last Sunday to take the lead in the North/Central championship 50 overs series. 

Batting first, EYM struggled to 206 for nine in  their 50 overs and Orangefield chased down the target for the loss of eight wickets. With the win, Orangefield now has 18 points from seven matches. EYM has the same number of points but they are second based on the fact that Orangefield won the head to head clash.

In third position is T&T Defence Force who has won five of their matches, included a close encounter against Munroe Road last Sunday. The Army/Coast Guard combination rattled up 222 all out and restricted Munroe Road to 128 to win by four runs.

St Mary’s big

winners in SE Zone

Nazarite and St Mary’s were big winners in recent fifth round matches in the Senior Division of the South-East Zone of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board.

Top club Nazarite trounced Forest Reserve by an innings and 154 runs after batting once in the match and posting 362 all out. In response Forest Reserve were bundled out for 110 and 98 respectively.

And St Mary’s of Moruga defeated Rio Sports by ten wickets with a solid batting and bowling display. Batting first Rio Sports fell for just 99 all out and St Mary’s built a handsome lead compiling 255 in their first innings. 

In their second turn at the crease Rio Sports did better posting 174 all but leaving St Mary’s just 18 for victory which they completed in fine style finishing on 21 without loss.

East looking to

regain Under-13 trophy

East Zone of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board have scheduled screening sessions for their Under-13 cricketers who are desirous of playing in the upcoming TTCB Inter Zone competition.

Parents are being advised that the youngsters must be residing in the region between El Socorro Road, San Juan and Pinto Road, Arima and are asked to note that the screening sessions will be held on Friday, May 13 and Monday, May 16 at Hardial Park, Tunapuna (on the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway opposite the Coca-Cola Bottling Company) from 3.30 pm. 

The successful cricketers of the screening sessions will be short-listed for trials at dates to be announced according to East Zone secretary Sukesh Maniam.

The TTCB Under-13 Inter Zone competition is expected to commence on May 27. 

East failed to retain the Under-13 title last year title after having won consecutively in the previous seven years. 

However, this season East Zone, after already having won the Under-15 crown, and shared the Under-19 title with Central Zone, are in the semi-finals of the Under-17 competition and would be looking to regain the Under-13 Trophy as well.

Police skittled for just 54 runs

Police Sports club was bowled out for just 54 runs in their round six encounter of the North/Central Championship sixth round league clash at the Barracks.

The officers could not handle the weapons sent their way by the T&T Defence Force and folded for their lowest score this season. At the close of the first day’s play, Defence Force was replying strongly on 214 for eight. They will begin the second day’s play on Saturday leading by 160 runs with two wickets still standing.

Also in poor form with the bat was Munroe Road who made just 100 runs against EYM at Munroe Road. EYM will begin their reply this Saturday.

Central Zone stages U13 screening sessions

Central Zone of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board has officially launched its preparation for the TTCB Under-13 Inter Zone competition scheduled to bowl off on May 27.

Interim chairman of the zone, Manohar Ramsaran has announced that screening sessions for the youngsters will be staged on Wednesday, May 11 at Munroe Road Recreation Ground in Cunupia; and on Friday, May 13, at Presentation College in Chaguanas.  

Both sessions will be conducted from 3:30 p.m.to 6 p.m.

Parents are reminded that the youngsters, who are being prepared for the TTCB Inter Zone competition, must present a recent passport picture, a copy of their birth certificate or Trinidad and Tobago Passport. 

Central Zone have experienced a revival in their cricket fortunes over the past season under its new administration and recently shared the Under-19 crown with East Zone, and are currently in the semi-finals of the Under-17 competition.
