National sailor Andrew Lewis says Flow has given him an extra boost towards his Olympic preparations, after the company announced at the T&T Sailing Association in Chaguaramas, yesterday, that the spirited sailor is Flow’s newest sports brand ambassador.
Lewis joins track and field athletes Khalifa St Fort and Machel Cedenio on Flow’s roster of brand ambassadors. Flow, the local telecommunications provider, announced that Lewis will be sporting the Flow logo on one of his laser vessels.
Lewis, who competed at the World Championships in Mexico last weekend, his first competition since a life threatening accident in December 2015, said that he is excited by the possibilities of partnering with Flow.
“Corporate partnerships are a critical part of success in sports, as not only does the funding support training and equipment, but in my case Flow is also putting its support behind my Foundation which provides opportunities to children in T&T to learn about the prospects of sailing as a sporting career. I’d really like to thank the Flow team for getting behind me, especially after my accident and all that has happened, a vote of confidence like this is very encouraging to me,” Lewis said.
Lewis will leave T&T later this week to train with the Dutch and American teams in California, USA, before heading to a second training in Rio.
As his preparations for Rio enters the final stages, Lewis spoke of some of his challenges: “It’s an ongoing process and a lot of people keep asking me ‘What are my plans for the Olympics and where do I see myself finishing?’ I keep telling them I need to let the next few weeks and months unfold so I could see where I am.
“Fortunately for me Rio is a technical and strategic venue where it takes a lot of local knowledge understanding the winds, currents and what the mountains are doing to the race course,” Lewis said.
Flow’s Managing Director, Brian Collins was present to welcome Lewis to the team.
“I met Andrew for the first time last April when he joined us at our announcement to the Caribbean about our securing Broadcast and Streaming rights to the Rio Olympics which are now less than 100 days away. Andrew was cool, well dressed and extremely affable. Now we know more. Following his accident in December we’ve all come to know the survivor who is extremely passionate about life and his sport. It makes me proud that Flow is able to support Andrew’s career and his dream,” Collins said.
Flow continues to receive positive endorsement from Brian Lewis, president of the T&T Olympic Committee who was also present at the event. He said, “Flow joined the Olympic family in 2015 as a partner of the Committee and a partner of the Olympic team and since then they have also gone on to build relationships with three of our top athletes. This is the type of support that team T&T requires, financial yes, but also support that builds relationships, focuses on the needs of the athletes within the competitive arena and outside of it as well. We’re excited to see the innovative ways in which Corporate T&T will step up in time to come.”
