Shift system taking toll on parents, children

The parents of Princes Town Presbyterian No 1 School are humbly asking the Minister of Education to look into the status of our school. In June 2015, our school was ordered to be “evacuated and demolished.”

Since then we have been on a shift system with a sister school. This present system is taking a toll on both the parents and the children. Allow me to highlight my plight as a single parent who has two children attending the school but each on a different shift.

(1) Morning Child has school from 8 to 2.20 and Evening Child has school from 12.30 to 4.30. This means Morning Child has to be dropped by 8, Evening Child has to be dropped at 12.30. Morning Child has to be collected at 2.20 and then Evening Child has to collected at 4.30.

(2) I have had to hire a caretaker to be with my Evening Child during the morning period, get him ready and drop him to school. This in itself is a risk I am taking since you cannot trust your child with anyone these days. This also is very expensive.

(3) It is not every day my employer would allow me time-off to collect Morning Child at 2.20; so on those days, which is most days, she has to remain in school until 4.30. That means she is at school from 8 to 4.30. When she gets home she is physically and mentally drained and we get very little work done which should not be the case for a child who will be writing SEA in the near future. The same goes for Evening Child.

Mr Garcia, please step in to alleviate the present shift system and get the ball rolling on the new school. Princes Town Presbyterian No 1 is the highest performing school in the South Eastern Education District and this school needs your immediate attention.

Help us, please.
