Hutton is strongly-fancied to hit his rivals for six in the Maiden Stakes over seven furlonngs of Chelmsford polytrack tonight. With such a wonderful name this Lawman gelding had to be trained in the North and Richard Fahey is tasked with his career.
Named after the Yorkshire-born England cricket captain of yester-year, Sir Leonard, Hutton made a pleasing debut earlier this month when second, beaten about three lengths, by Sky Ship over a similar distance on Wolverhampton Tapeta. There were no great expectations.
That was obvious because Hutton went off a 10/1 chance and though he managed to lead approaching the final furlong it was one-way traffic when Sky Ship loomed up and stormed clear. Sir Michael Stoute’s charge, an odds-on cert is probably way above average and worth monitoring next year.
Once-raced, Sir Mark Prescott-trained Mockinbird is bound to have plenty of support and one or two other fashionable yards are represented but Fahey again proved his set-up a winning machine last season and this time there are expectations!
Earlier another seven-race programme is scheduled on Southwell fibresand and Powered has a special look in the Selling Stakes over a mile of the notorious deep stuff!
Powered, racing for the fifth time, achieved a career-best three weeks ago when a creditable third to our nap selection, Ginger Joe, over seven furlongs of this course.
In the closing stages Powered, blinkered for the first time and backed into favouritism, stayed on in a manner that suggested further will suit him ideally. What beats him will win!
